Terumo Medical Surflo Peripheral IV Catheter
Features
IV Catheter or Intravenous Catheter is a small, flexible tube designed to deliver IV medications and fluids to the patient. It directly administers medications and fluids into the peripheral vein situated in the arm or leg of the patient. It makes sure that the patient receives the effects of treatment much faster than by any other route. After insertion, the line can also be used to draw blood. IV catheter supplies prove to be beneficial in many medical conditions like nutrition, chemotherapy, dehydration, shock, blood transfusions, surgery and medication administration.
SURFLO ETFE I.V. Catheters With an ultra-sharp double-bevel introducer needle and medical-grade lubricant, the SURFLO ETFE I.V. catheter allows easier penetration and smoother travel through tissue. The clear, sure-grip hub features a preview chamber to indicate proper placement, while the large inner diameter of the catheter assures good blood flow.
Always select the smallest gauge peripheral catheter that will accommodate the prescribed therapy and patient need. Peripheral catheters larger than 20G are more likely to cause phlebitis. Do not use peripheral veins for continuous infusions of vesicants, parenteral nutrition or infuscate with an osmolarity of 900 mOsm/L.1 External catheter diameters, length and water flow rates are variable among each brand of catheter, with the dimensions and flow rates listed below being approximate. Fluid flow rates in actual patient use, are influenced by the type and viscosity of fluid, fluid temperature, height of the container and the use of needle-less connectors.2 There are numerous factors that could also affect fluid flow rates, once the catheter is inserted into a patient. The Surflo I.V. Catheters are made out of special medical grade FEP/EFTE.The carefully selected materials of the Terumo FEP/EFTE I.V. Catheters are designed to ensure a stable form (lower risk of split tips and peel back) during punctures under difficult conditions.
