Q. What are the advantages of using the Broda Sashay Pedal Wheelchair?
A. The Broda Sashay Pedal Wheelchair encourages independent mobility by
allowing users to self-propel using their feet, which promotes active movement
throughout the day. This type of wheelchair helps improve blood circulation,
maintain lower-body strength, and reduce fatigue by keeping users engaged and
moving. Whether using both feet, hands, or a combination of both, the chair
supports flexible, user-driven movement based on the individual’s mobility level
and stamina—reducing reliance on caregiver assistance.
Q. What seating system does the Sashay Chair use?
A. The chair uses Broda’s proprietary Comfort Tension Seating® system, which
distributes weight evenly, enhances airflow, and reduces the risk of skin
breakdown—making it ideal for long-duration sitting.
Q. Is the Broda Sashay Pedal Chair considered medical equipment or
furniture?
A. It is classified as Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and falls under FDA
Class I Mechanical Wheelchairs. It's not furniture; it's a medical device
recognized by the Veterans Health Administration for its clinical support
features.
Q. Are replacement parts available on my Broda Sashay Pedal Wheelchair?
A. Yes, replacement parts are available upon request. For pricing and availability, please contact our customer service team at csteam@medicaleshop.com or call us at (866) 563-6812. We’ll be happy to assist you with a quote.
Q. How often should I maintain my Broda Sashay Pedal Wheelchair to ensure
it lasts?
A. To maintain your Broda Sashay Pedal Wheelchair, inspect brakes, casters,
and recline mechanisms weekly for smooth operation. Regularly clean the frame
and upholstery to avoid debris buildup. Arrange yearly checkups with a certified
technician to address wear and make adjustments. Follow the user manual’s
maintenance recommendations to maximize the chair’s durability and performance.
Q. What is a pedal wheelchair?
A. A pedal wheelchair is a mobility chair designed for foot propulsion, allowing
users to move independently using their legs and/or hands. These wheelchairs
typically have a lower seat-to-floor height, making it easier for users to reach
the ground and navigate their environment with ease.
Q. What are the benefits of a foot pedal wheelchair?
A. Foot pedal wheelchairs promote active movement and independence, reducing
reliance on caregivers for mobility. They can help improve circulation, maintain
muscle strength, and reduce fatigue, making them an excellent option for
individuals with some lower-body mobility. The ability to self-propel or scoot
with both feet and hands provides flexibility based on the user’s strength and
endurance.
Q. Can pedal wheelchairs be adjusted for individuals with varying leg lengths
or strength?
A. Yes, Broda pedal wheelchairs feature adjustable seat-to-floor heights to
accommodate different leg lengths and mobility needs. These adjustments ensure
users can comfortably and effectively reach the floor, promoting safe heel
strike and efficient self-propulsion.
Q. What is the difference between a transit and self-propelled wheelchair?
A. A transit wheelchair is designed to be pushed by a caregiver and typically
has smaller rear wheels, making it lighter and easier to maneuver. A
self-propelled wheelchair has larger rear wheels with hand rims, allowing users
to independently move themselves with their hands or feet. A transit wheelchair
may also refer to a crash-tested, WC19 certified wheelchair for use in an
accessible vehicle.
Q. Does the Broda Sashay Pedal Chair offer recline or tilt features?
A. No, the Sashay Pedal Chair does not include tilt or recline functions. It is designed to provide a safe and stable seat for foot propulsion that offers therapeutic benefits and user engagement without the complexity of recline adjustments.
Q. Does the Broda Sashay Pedal Chair require assembly upon delivery?
A. No, the Broda Sashay Pedal Chair ships fully assembled and ready for immediate use. If the chair appears incomplete or damaged upon arrival, please contact our support team before use to resolve any concerns.
