Detailed description

The Bodypoint® Four Point Padded Hip Belts, a crucial addition to your wheelchair for enhanced stability and comfort. This innovative hip belt features a secure 4-point attachment system, ensuring that the pelvis remains in a stable, aligned position against the seat and back supports. The primary straps precisely position the belt, while the secondary straps firmly anchor it in place. This dual-strap setup effectively prevents the belt from riding up into the abdomen or shifting out of position, making it ideal for addressing issues such as anterior pelvic tilt, pelvic rotation, and thrusting.

Features:

  • Versatile secondary strap attachments allow for anchoring the belt above or in front of the pelvis, adapting to your specific needs.
  • The closed-cell foam padding offers exceptional resilience and even pressure distribution, enhancing user comfort.
  • The exclusive D-ring design is deeper, catering to larger hand sizes and ensuring a secure and easily graspable fit.
  • The soft fabric lining is both wrinkle-free and durable, providing users with lasting comfort.

How to order a hip belt

Improved Position with Four-Point Hip Belt:

Anterior Pelvic Tilt:

Possible Causes:

  • Wheelchair Problems: Seat-to-back angle too small
  • Physical Conditions: Tight hip flexors, weak abdomen muscles, and lordosis.

Attachment:

Position the padded belt over the ASIS and attach it at 30-45° to the seat. Anchor the secondary straps between 60° and 90° to the seat to prevent the padded belt from lifting up into the abdomen.

Pelvic Obliquity and Rotation:

Possible Causes:

  • Wheelchair Problems: Unsupportive sling back/seat upholstery, wheelchair too wide and seat too small
  • Physical Conditions: Irregular trunk muscle tone, muscle imbalance, and scoliosis.

Attachment:

Position the padded belt over the ASIS and attach it at 60° to the wheelchair seat. When using a Four-Point Hip Belt, anchor the secondary straps to the seat between 45° and 90°.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Begin by determining the most effective position and angle for the belt based on clinical goals. Assess whether placing the pull strap on the left or right side is best for the user.
  2. Locate the desired mounting points on the seating system or wheelchair frame where the belt will be attached.
  3. If necessary, attach the end-fittings to the rigid seat base or wheelchair frame using optional Bodypoint® belt mounting hardware.
  4. Center the belt on the user and thread the strap ends through the end-fittings. Adjust the length of the straps to meet the user's specific requirements.
  5. Tighten the belt until it is snug, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for the user.
  6. To stabilize and position the user effectively, refer back to the installation instructions provided above.
  7. Finally, attach the secondary straps to the wheelchair to prevent the belt from shifting, further enhancing user safety and comfort.

Select a hip belt in four easy steps:

Select Belt size: Small (S32, S38), Medium (M36, M40, M46), Large (L62, L82, L92)

Choose Buckle type:

  1. Small Metal push-button (Secure for child-sized belts or when the less-bulky buckle is desired. Security cover optional)
  2. Swivel (Smooth, flat design allows for dynamic movement & equalizes tension. Requires moderate force to release)
  3. Push button (Smooth, rounded corners prevent snagging. Cover is removable for cleaning or replacing with reduced/no-access cover)
  4. Plastic side-release (Crush-resistant buckle prevents accidental release but requires strong hand function)
  5. Rehab Latch™ (Provides easy opening for those with limited hand function)

Select Pull style:

  1. Center-pull (Suitable for a wide range of users, especially for those with posterior pelvic tilt)
  2. Dual-pull (More adjustable to accommodate clothing and weight changes. Available with side-release buckle only)
  3. Rear-pull (Works well for high muscle tone & pelvic rotation. Position & secure one side of the pelvis before the other)

Select End-fittings:

  1. Flat-Mount™ (-B1: Versatile, lowest profile)
  2. Cinch-Mount™ (-B2: Allows quick, easy & precise adjustments to strap length for changes in weight and clothing)
  3. Flat-Mount™ with framsaver clamp & Cinch-Mount™ with FrameSaver™ clamp (FrameSaver™ Clamp is powerful & snaps into place for safe mounting anywhere along wheelchair tubing without having to drill)

How to Measure Hip Belt:

Determining the Correct Belt Size for the User:

  1. Position Assessment: To determine the correct belt size for the user, begin by aligning the individual according to clinical goals. Utilize the arms to place the user in the desired position and ascertain the most effective angle and position for the belt. This positioning is crucial to ensuring the belt's functionality and support.
  2. Measuring the Padded Section: Once the optimal angle and position have been established, measure the distance over the user's body at this specific angle using a flexible tape. This measurement will determine the optimal length for the belt's padded section, providing the user with the most comfortable and secure fit.
  3. Sizing Table Reference: Consult the sizing table relevant to the specific belt style being used. Refer to Column B within the table to find the appropriate belt size based on the previously measured padded section length. If the user falls between two available sizes, take into consideration factors such as potential growth, weight variations, and clothing changes. Ensure that the selected size aligns with the user's needs, and it's important to note that the pads should not extend past the user's body for proper fit and functionality.
