Clip Appliers and Removers

Clip appliers are typically used to close wounds that are 1/4 inch to 1 inch in length. They are made of stainless steel or titanium and come in a variety of sizes. Clip appliers are usually disposable, but there are also reusable models available. To use a clip applier, the healthcare professional will first clean the wound and then apply a local anesthetic. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, the healthcare professional will insert the clip applier into the wound and then apply the clip. The clip will hold the edges of the wound together until they heal. If you notice any redness, swelling, or warmth around your skin clips, contact your healthcare provider immediately. This could be a sign of infection.
