Dermabond Advanced Topical Skin Adhesive is specifically designed for the closure of easily approximated skin edges resulting from surgical incisions or simple, trauma-induced lacerations. It is intended for topical application and can be used in conjunction with deep dermal stitches, but not as a replacement for them.
Uses:
- Topical application for closing skin edges of surgical incisions, including minimally invasive surgery.
- Closure of simple, thoroughly cleansed trauma-induced lacerations.
Features:
- Strength and Integrity: Provides sufficient strength to maintain the barrier and wound closure integrity, ensuring that the wound stays securely closed during the healing process.
- Infection Protection: Provides 99% protection in vitro for 72 hours against organisms commonly responsible for surgical site infections (SSIs).
- Composition and Usage: Composed of 2-octylcyanoacrylate, a strong and flexible adhesive suitable for medical use. Comes in a single-use, 0.7 mL ampule for easy and precise application.
Preparation:
- Ensure the wound is clean and dry before application. Thoroughly cleanse trauma-induced lacerations to remove any debris or contaminants.
Application:
- Open the single-use ampule and apply the adhesive to the approximated skin edges of the wound. Ensure even coverage for effective closure.
- Avoid getting the adhesive into the wound itself; apply it only to the skin edges.
- Hold the skin edges together until the adhesive sets and forms a secure bond.
Post-Application Care:
- Advise the patient to avoid picking at the adhesive film and to keep the area dry.
- The adhesive will naturally wear off as the skin heals.
- Avoid using ointments or creams on the adhesive as it may cause premature breakdown of the film.
