Drop Support Harness
Drop Support 3 is a one-of-a-kind upper-body harness that wraps around the user's waist, chest, and torso, with a central handle that runs the length of the torso. The support handle serves as a point of contact between the harness user and the person aiding the harness user ("assistant").
How does it work?
Drop Support was created to be utilised with an assistance around the house, on walks in the park, walking the dog, travelling to the shopping, and many other activities. The fundamental feature of Drop Support is the support handle, which allows an assistance to get more power over the user during a fall. This leverage is significant in two areas: the first is the support handle, which is located between the user and the assistance and is used to slow the descent of the fall, and the second is that it can be used to change the direction of the fall. This allows an assistant to have a more manageable user and carefully lead them away from potentially dangerous materials.

Monitor:
An assistant assists in monitoring the user for instability, and if the user becomes insecure or falls, the assistant applies steadying pressure to the user's upper body via the support handle, assisting in regaining stability in an upright position. If the user is unable to restore stability, the assistant can utilise the support handle to reduce the user's drop to the floor, reducing the severity of any safety issues caused by falls.

Restabalize:
If the user is falling forward, the assistance should grab hold of the uppermost section of the support handle and pull up and towards them, allowing the user to rest against them. The user will be aided in restoring steadiness as a result of this.

Respond:
When the user is unable to restore stability, the assistance should grab the uppermost section of the support handle while standing on the user's side and draw the user towards them with a hard, smooth pull. With one hand, draw the handle upward firmly and smoothly, while holding the user beneath the elbow or under the arm pit with the other.

Assist:
For improved stability, always retain a wide base of support. The distance between your feet should be shoulder width, with one foot slightly ahead of the other. When an assistance is supporting the user, crouch down and lower the user to the floor by bending just at the hips and knees.
Why Drop Support Harness 3?
Because Drop Support Harness Assistance, one drop at a time, has the potential to help families reclaim their sense of trust in fall support. It instils a new feeling of hope in families.
The challenge: The most difficult part of providing fall care to family members during a fall is figuring out how to stop the fall from happening in the first place. Most family members currently have no other option but to communicate with one another save through physical contact. The issue with physical contact is the contact itself, which can lead to damage if family members or caregivers use too much force or pressure to break someone's fall. In other cases, it's a lack of or inability to physically make adequate contact with the person, causing them to slip through our fingers. It's time for a change when simply holding their arms or hugging them isn't enough.
The change: Drop Support is one of a kind in that it secures the user's entire upper body with a single point of contact. It's because of this centralised point of contact that you may provide full upper-body fall support without the requirement for bear hugging. A support system that has the potential to change your lives forever.
Factors that cause falls and strategies to reduce your risk of falling:
- Center of Gravity & Balance: Controlling the placement of the body's centre of gravity in relation to its base of support is one method to maintaining balance. We will quickly lose our balance and fall if we lean forward or backward and allow our centre of gravity to travel beyond our base of support, unless we shift our centre of gravity back over our base or adjust our base of support such that it remains under our centre of gravity.
- Gravity: Gravity accelerates objects at a rate of 32 feet per second squared towards the ground. With gravity constantly pulling us downward, it's no surprise that even a minor fall can result in serious damage.
- Friction: Friction, or more specifically, a lack of friction, is another fall element, in addition to balance and gravity. Friction is the force that prevents one solid item from moving relative to another. It's crucial to keep enough friction or traction on your feet while walking to avoid falling. As a result, friction is a fall element that must be managed.
- Momentum: The final fall aspect we'll talk about is momentum. The mass and speed of an object determine its momentum. The momentum of an object indicates how much force is required to bring it to a halt. Momentum can become a stumbling block in a number of ways. For starters, gaining too much momentum by driving too fast might make it harder to come to a complete stop when confronted with an unforeseen hazard. Second, when our motion rises, the amount of friction required to keep our feet from slipping on the travelling surface rises as well. To put it another way, the more momentum we have, the more likely we are to collapse. Finally, keep in mind that "a moving body tends to continue moving." When our basis of support, our feet, are abruptly stopped, our centre of gravity tends to remain in motion and may extend too far beyond our base of support, resulting in a loss of balance and a fall.
How may "Drop Support Harness" assist you?
Balance & Center of Gravity:Use of the support handle, an assistance can aid the user in restoring their balance by assisting them discover their centre of gravity and base of support. If the user begins to fall forward, backwards, or side-to-side, the assistant utilises the support handle to adjust the direction of the fall to re-establish the user's centre of gravity and allowing the user to locate their base of support, which the user will then be stable and balanced.
Attraction: The assistance has a higher chance of halting the user's forward/downward movement before it gains acceleration when the Drop Support harness is properly placed and firmly attached. The assistant is more likely to be able to regulate the user's descent if the user's momentum is limited or reduced, which is safer for both the user and the assistance.

FAQs
Q. Can the Drop Support Harness 3 actually help stop or control a fall?
A.
Yes. The Drop Support Harness 3 gives the caregiver a long, central support handle that allows them to slow a fall, redirect the user’s momentum, or lower them safely to the floor. It is designed to give more control than holding a user’s arms, clothing, or gait belt alone.
Q. Is this harness safe to use for elderly parents or adults with balance issues?
A.
Yes, it’s designed specifically for users with moderate balance problems who still participate in daily activities. Caregivers often use it for seniors, adults with neurological conditions, and individuals who have frequent near-falls. For users with severe instability or lifting needs, consult a clinician first.
Q. What makes this better than a regular gait belt for fall support?
A.
Unlike a gait belt, the Drop Support Harness 3 stabilizes the entire upper body and gives you a higher grip point, which offers more leverage during a forward or sideways fall. It also eliminates dangerous tugging on clothing or arms and reduces strain on the caregiver’s back.
Q. How do I know what size to buy, and how tight should the harness fit?
A.
Choose the size based on the user’s chest/waist measurements and adjust the straps so the harness fits snugly across the torso without shifting. A secure fit is essential because the support handle must stay centered during a fall. When in doubt between two sizes, choose the one that allows the closest, stable fit.
Q. Can the Drop Support Harness 3 be used for outdoor walks, stairs, or transferring into a chair?
A.
Yes, it’s built for both indoor and outdoor use — including walks, short outings, moving around the home, and navigating higher-risk areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and stairs. It is not intended as a lifting device for full transfers, but it helps with stability when rising from a seated position.
Q. Will the Drop Support Harness work for someone who has a G-Tube, Dexcom sensor, or other medical devices on the abdomen?
A.
Yes. The harness can be used safely as long as the waist belt sits above the medical device. If the Adult size doesn’t adjust high enough on the torso, the B’s & G’s size is a better option because it fits higher and avoids pressure on the abdomen.
Q. My child/mother is 5 ft tall — what size Drop Support should I order?
A.
Drop Support sizing isn’t based on height, age, weight, or clothing size (except for the Children’s harness). You should choose the size based on the user’s waist measurement and torso length. Height alone isn’t enough to determine the correct fit.
