Uses:

• Antimicrobial skin cleanser helps reduce bacteria that potentially can cause disease
• For skin wound and general skin cleansing
• Surgical hand scrub
• Healthcare personnel hand wash

Directions For Use:

• Use with care in premature infants or infants under 2 months of age. These products may cause irritation or chemical burns.
• Skin wound and general skin cleansing: Thoroughly rinse the area to be cleansed with water. Apply the minimum amount of the product necessary to cover the skin or wound area and wash gently. Rinse thoroughly.
• Surgical hand scrub: Wet hands and forearms with water. Scrub for 3 minutes with about 5mL of the product with a brush. Rinse thoroughly under running water. Repeat. Dry thoroughly.
• Healthcare personnel handwash: Wet hands with water. Dispense about 5mL of the product into cupped hands and wash in a vigorous manner for 15 seconds. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Warnings:

• For external use only
• Store between 20-25℃ (68-77°F)
• Avoid excessive heat above 40C (104°F)
• Keep out of reach of children.
• If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Do not use:

• If you are allergic to chlorhexidine gluconate or any other ingredients in this preparation
• As a patient preoperative skin preparation of the head or face
• In contact with the meninges in the genital area
• On wounds that involve more than the superficial layers of skin

When Using This Product:

• Keep out of eyes, ears, and mouth. May cause serious and permanent eye injury if placed or kept in the eye during surgical procedures, or may cause deafness when instilled in the middle ear through perforated eardrums.
• If contact occurs in any of these areas, rinse with cold water right away

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

• Irritation, sensitization, or allergic reaction occurs and lasts for 72 hours. These may be signs of a serious condition.

1. I accidentally got some of the product on my towel. How do I get a stain out?

If Hibiclens gets onto cloth, do not bleach it! Using bleach may cause a reaction that will leave a brown stain.

2. Can Hibiclens be used as a topical treatment of skin infections?

Hibiclens is not indicated as a treatment for skin infections. It has an antiseptic activity and a persistent effect against a wide range of microorganisms, and should be used as a skin cleanser to help reduce bacteria that potentially can cause disease. Hibiclens helps prevent skin infections, thereby reducing the risk of cross-infection.

3. Can I use Hibiclens if I am pregnant?

Yes. You do not need to discontinue use of Hibiclens if you are pregnant. Simply be sure to use as directed.

4. Can I wash my face with Hibiclens?

Hibiclens should not be used as a skin cleanser to wash your face. Hibiclens should not be used as a patient preoperative preparation of the head or face. When using Hibiclens, be sure to keep out of the eyes, ears and mouth.

5. Is it safe to use Hibiclens while taking other medications?

It is safe to use Hibiclens while taking other medications; however, some topical products, such as lotions, shampoos, and deodorants, may interfere with the binding of Hibiclens to the skin. If you have concerns, please check with your healthcare professional to determine if a topical medication is compatible with Hibiclens.

6. Is Hibiclens safe for my kids?

Hibiclens is strong enough for medical use, yet gentle enough for daily use. It is safe for a child to use, though parents should always supervise use by younger children. Keep out of the reach of children, as the product can cause damage to the eyes and ears if used improperly. Finally, use with caution in premature infants and infants less than two months of age, as chlorhexidine products may cause irritation or chemical burns in these populations.

7. My child has sensitive skin; will Hibiclens irritate her?

Dermatological testing has shown that Hibiclens is very mild on user skin – nearly as mild as water! However, sensitivities and allergies do exist. If irritation occurs, please stop using Hibiclens immediately. Stop using and ask doctor if irritation, sensitization, or allergic reaction occurs, as these may be signs of a serious condition.

8. Can I use Hibiclens to clean surfaces such as counter-tops, faucets, brushes, razors….?

Hibiclens’ active ingredient, chlorhexidine gluconate, works by binding to the skin. We do not have data on its ability to fight germs on hard surfaces or anything other than skin. When using Hibiclens, please avoid cleaning hard surfaces (e.g. showers, tubs, sinks…) with chlorinated products. Interaction between chlorine-containing cleansers and Hibiclens’ active ingredient can cause staining.
