Indications for use:
The InPen requires a prescription. It is a home-use reusable pen injector for single-patient use by people with diabetes under the supervision of an adult caregiver, or by a patient age 7 and older for the self-injection of a desired dose of insulin. The pen injector is compatible with Lilly Humalog U-100 3.0 mL cartridges, Novo Nordisk Novolog U-100 3.0 mL cartridges, and Novo Nordisk Fiasp U-100 3.0 mL cartridges and single-use detachable and disposable pen needles (not included). The pen injector allows the user to dial the desired dose from 0.5 to 30 units in one-half (1/2) unit increments.
The InPen dose calculator, a component of the InPen app, is indicated for the management of diabetes by people with diabetes under the supervision of an adult caregiver, or by a patient age 7 and older for calculating an insulin dose or carbohydrate intake based on user entered data.
For an insulin dose based on amount of carbohydrates, a healthcare professional must provide patient-specific target blood glucose, insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio, and insulin sensitivity parameters to be programmed into the software prior to use.
For an insulin dose based on fixed/variable meal sizes, a healthcare professional must provide patient-specific fixed doses/meal sizes to be programmed into the software prior to use.
Contraindications:
The InPen system is not intended for anyone unable or unwilling to:
- Test blood glucose (BG) levels as recommended by a healthcare provider
- Maintain sufficient diabetes self-care skills
- Visit a healthcare provider regularly
InPen is not recommended for the blind or visually impaired without the assistance of a sighted individual trained to use it. Always carry a spare insulin delivery device in case your InPen is lost or damaged.

The InPen should be cleaned whenever it is visibly dirty. Cleaning removes dirt from the surface of the device. It does not kill bacteria or viruses. Clean your InPen as needed with a soft cloth moistened with water only, being careful not to get water inside. Never submerge the InPen. If you get insulin on your InPen, clean it off right away.
Q2. How to change the name of your InPen?
If you'd like to change the name of your InPen (for example, "work InPen" or "home InPen") follow these steps:
- Tap Settings
- Select My InPens
- Find the active InPen(s) in the list and tap on the InPen you want to rename
- Tap InPen Name and type in the name
- Tap Save
Q3. How to dispose InPen?
Your InPen contains a lithium battery and electronic parts, so you should not throw it out with your household waste. Here is how to dispose of your InPen in a safe and environmentally correct way:
- Remove the needle and cartridge and throw them away as your doctor or nurse has instructed you.
- Throw your InPen away as specified by your local authorities.
Q4. How to pair your pen?
- Open the InPen app.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Pair New Pen.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your InPen to your smartphone or tablet.
Q5. What is priming?
Priming before you dose removes the air from the needle and cartridge that may collect during normal use. This ensures that you get your full dose. It's important to prime before every injection when using any insulin pen.
Q6. How to prime your InPen (before every injection)?
If you don’t prime before each injection, your dose might be lower than you intended.
- Remove the paper tab from the needle
- Screw the needle onto the cartridge holder
- Pull off the outer cap and the inner cap
- Discard the inner cap
- Keep the outer cap to remove the needle after your injection
- Dial the Dose Knob to select 2 units
- Hold the InPen so the needle is pointing up and tap cartridge to collect any air at the top
- Prime the InPen by pushing the injection button with your thumb. You should see a few drops of insulin.
- If no insulin is seen, repeat priming according to steps 6 through 8. A new cartridge may need to be primed several times.
Caution: If no insulin flows after several attempts, attach a new needle, as the one on your InPen may be clogged.
