ManukaMed ManukAhd is a super-absorbent polyacrylate polymer and polyester fiber dressing infused with 100% pure Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka) honey from New Zealand, maintaining a natural pH range of 3.0-4.5. This sterile, single-use wound dressing combines superior absorbency and cross-linked mesh fibers to create a moist wound environment that supports healing while effectively managing exudate for up to seven days. Flexible and conformable in design, it promotes autolytic debridement, lowers wound pH to accelerate healing, and helps reduce or eliminate wound odor - without the need for an additional absorptive secondary dressing.
Features:
- Enables swelling and gelling upon contact with wound exudate.
- Flexible and comfortable for easy application.
- Helps reduce or eliminate wound odor.
- Does not require a secondary absorptive dressing.
- Lowers wound bed pH to promote optimal healing conditions.
- Stimulates autolytic debridement of necrotic tissue.
- Removes eschar and debris as they are absorbed into the mesh fibers, resulting in a cleaner, more viable wound bed.
Indication:
For moderate to heavy exudate on the following wound types:
- Venous Ulcers
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers
- Pressure Ulcers
- Arterial & Surgical Wounds
- Skin Tears
- Trauma Wounds
- 1st and 2nd degree burns.
The dressings may be used Over-The-Counter for:
- Minor Abrasions
- Lacerations
- Minor Cuts
- Minor Scalds and Burns
Contraindications: Do not use on patients with known sensitivity to honey. Minor stinging may be experienced due to osmotic action and/or the low pH of honey. This should be temporary, if pain persists, discontinue use of the dressing and gently irrigate the wound with sterile saline solution.
Directions for Use:
- Gently irrigate wound with a sterile wound cleanser or saline. Remove protective liners. Apply directly to wound, either side down. Dressing may be cut to size. For large wounds, use additional dressings and place side by side. Cover with a non-adherent, absorbent dressing (gauze roll).
Dressing Change: Frequency of dressing changes depends on wound characteristics and drainage levels. Replace the dressing when saturated or as drainage decreases. Once exudate is controlled, dressing changes may occur every 2-3 days until the wound is healed. If the dressing adheres to the wound, moisten with sterile saline until it loosens, then remove gently. Reapply as necessary.
Precautions: While no increase in blood glucose levels has been reported in diabetic patients using honey dressings, blood sugar should be monitored during treatment.
Note:
- Do not reuse.
- Do not re-sterilize.
- Continuous use of ManukAhd should not exceed 30 days, or should follow the appropriate wound care protocol.
