McKesson 2.6% 14-Day Glutaraldehyde Sterilizing and Disinfectant Solution is an activated dialdehyde solution formulated for the sterilization and high-level disinfection of heat-sensitive, lensed, and delicate medical instruments. Supplied as one gallon (128 fl. oz./3.8 liters) of activated solution, it is designed for facilities requiring reliable reprocessing of equipment where thermal methods are not suitable.

This 2.6% buffered glutaraldehyde solution is activated and effective for up to 14 days and contains no surfactants. The absence of surfactants helps prevent residue or film buildup on glass surfaces, making it especially appropriate for lensed instruments. Compatibility with Metrex® brand test strips supports routine monitoring of solution effectiveness during use.

Indications for Use:

• A liquid chemical sterilant and high-level disinfectant when used as directed.
• Sterilization: At full strength, can sterilize reusable medical devices at 25 °C with an immersion time of at least 10 hours (up to 14 days).
• High-Level Disinfection: At full strength, can high-level disinfect reusable medical devices at 25 °C with an immersion time of at least 45 minutes (up to 14 days).

Instructions for Use:

Activation & Preparation

• Activate the solution by adding the entire activator vial to the container and shake well.
• Color change indicates activation and readiness for use.
• Record the date of activation and expiration on the container or log.

Cleaning & Immersion

• Thoroughly clean and rinse devices before immersion.
• Completely immerse devices for the recommended contact time based on sterilization or disinfection levels.

Rinsing After Use

• After immersion, rinse devices in three separate volumes of water.
• Use sterile water for devices intended for sterile areas; potable water may be used otherwise.

Reuse Limit

• Activated solution may only be used for up to 14 days.
• Verify efficacy using a 1.5 % glutaraldehyde concentration indicator before each use.

Warnings:

• Hazardous — Keep out of reach of children.
• Corrosive to tissue: Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.
• Ventilation: Use in well-ventilated areas and keep container closed when not in use.
• Eye or skin contact: Immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
• If swallowed: Seek medical assistance immediately; do not induce vomiting unless instructed.

Precautions:

• Wear protective gloves, eye protection, face mask, and liquid-proof gown during use.
• Clean soiled devices thoroughly before disinfection or sterilization.
• Follow directions exactly; changes may reduce safety or effectiveness.
• Use only validated procedures for automated washers according to manufacturer instructions.

Storage:

• Before activation: Store in original sealed container at room temperature.
• After activation: Store in original container in a well-ventilated, low-traffic area at room temperature until use.
• Do not use activated solution beyond 14 days from activation.
