MIC Gastro-Enteric Feeding Tube Kit allows for both jejunal feeding and gastric decompression. It has many feeding exit holes that enhance flow and reduce clogging. Contains clearly defined gastric and jejunal ports for simple identification. A specially-designed MIC Gastro-Enteric Tube has been inserted into your stomach through the abdominal wall. It delivers nutrition beyond the stomach into the small intestine. This tube permits the intake of the food and water that your body requires. The tube also will remove any gas or secretions which may build up in your stomach. Your doctor has selected the proper tube for you and has given you instructions on its care and maintenance. This booklet will help you remember those instructions. You have also been given instructions about diet and medications to be administered through the tube. Follow these instructions closely and never use any other diet or medication.

Indications
MIC Gastro-Enteric Tube for enteral feeding and gastric decompression is wide and varied. The MIC Gastro-Enteric Tube can be used for gastric motility complications, gastroparesis, head injury or stroke complications, or other situations where gastric decompression and enteral feeding distal to the stomach are indicated.
Care and Use
The MIC Gastro-Enteric Tube must be cared for daily. Care is simple and easy, consisting mainly of keeping the tube and the skin around the tube (stoma) clean and dry.
Keep the following supplies on hand to make your cleaning task easier and remember to wash hands before touching your tube.
- Soap and water
- Tissues or 4 x 4s
- Disposable syringe
- Cotton-tipped swabs
- Diet soft drink for use as a cleaning solution
Inspect both the skin around the tube (the stoma) and the tube routinely at feedings and make sure they are clean.
Lift the edges of the ventilated SECUR-LOK ring and gently clean the skin around the tube (stoma) with cotton-tip swabs, a soft cloth, or 4 x 4s, using soap and water. Rinse and dry the stoma after cleaning.
Inspect and Clean the Tube
Clean and dry the outside of the tube and both sides of the ventilated SECUR-LOK* ring using cotton-tipped swabs. The ring can be cleaned in place or can be moved up the tube to clean.
Flush the Tube
After every feeding, flush the jejunal port of the tube with 20–30 ml of water (adults) or 10–15 ml for children or infants. If you are on continous feeding, the tube should be flushed at least 3–5 times daily. The tube should be clear of medicine or feeding solutions. Wipe down the feeding port and its plug using a swab, soft cloth, or 4 x 4s to remove any build-up of oils or feeding materials.
The gastric port should also be irrigated on a regular basis to prevent any accumulation of stomach secretions which could block the tube.
Contraindications
Contraindications for placement of a GE feeding tube include, but are not limited to:
- Ascites
- Peritonitis
