Indications
Used for enteral feeding and gastric decompression in gastroparesis, motility disorders, head injury/stroke, or when feeding distal to the stomach is needed.
Daily Care
Keep the stoma and tube clean & dry daily. Supplies: soap/water, 4×4s or tissues, syringe, cotton swabs, diet soft drink (for declogging). Lift the SECUR-LOK ring, gently clean the skin, rinse, and dry completely. Check the stoma/tube at every feeding.
Contraindications
- Ascites, Peritonitis, Portal hypertension, Colonic interposition, Uncorrected coagulopathy, Uncertain tract length/abdominal wall thickness
Possible Complications
- Aspiration, Tube clog/leakage/dislodgement, Infection, abscess, skin breakdown, Buried bumper syndrome, Pressure necrosis, Perforation, bleeding, hypergranulation
DO’S
- DO use a feeding pump
- DO keep all ports & exterior tube clean
- DO flush tube 3–5× daily
- DO use only liquid medications
- DO adjust SECUR-LOK ring 1–2 mm from skin
- DO wash your hands before touching the tube/stoma

Warning
- Never remove or replace the MIC Gastro-Enteric Tube yourself — only a clinician may do this.
- If the skin around the tube is red, sore, or irritated, contact your physician immediately.
- Patients on elemental feeds via the jejunal port must use a feeding pump for accurate delivery and to keep the tube open.
- Single-use device — do not reuse, reprocess, or resterilize. Doing so can damage the tube, cause infection, or lead to serious injury/illness/death.
Caution
- Follow your doctor’s orders for gastric care.
- If on continuous feeding, flush the tube at least 3–5 times daily.
- Never puncture any part of the tube.
Note:
- Verify package integrity. Do not use if the package is damaged or the sterile barrier compromised.
- The risk for perforation may be higher in patients weighing <10kg.
