How to Apply

1. Verify the expiration date on the package and remove the dressing from the sterile pouch.
2. Apply the dressing directly to the source of bleeding and use it to apply manual compression.
   • The dressing may be packed into the wound tract for penetrating injuries.
   • More than one dressing may be required.
3. Continue manual pressure for five minutes, or until bleeding is controlled.
4. The dressing may remain in place for up to 24 hours.
   • Gently remove the dressing.
   • If difficult to remove, hydrate with sterile saline.
   • Thoroughly irrigate the wound to remove any kaolin released from the dressing.
5. If the patient is transported with the dressing in place, ensure removal instructions are communicated to medical personnel.

Indications for Use

QuikClot EMS 4x4 Dressing is intended for use as a topical dressing for bleeding control, including:

• Cuts, lacerations, and abrasions
• Traumatic injuries
• Surgical wounds (operative, postoperative, dermatological, etc.)
• Temporarily managing severely bleeding wounds

Contraindications

Safety and effectiveness have not been established for use in:

• Neurological procedures
• Ophthalmic procedures
• Spinal procedures
• Gastrointestinal procedures
• Orthopedic (bone repair) procedures
• All anastomoses (including vascular)
• Femoral artery puncture sites

Warnings & Precautions

• The dressing is not absorbable and must be removed prior to wound closure
• Not intended as a substitute for proper surgical technique, sterile procedures, or conventional bleeding control methods
• Must not remain in the wound longer than 24 hours
• Avoid contact with eyes
• For single use only; reuse may increase risk of infection and reduce effectiveness
• Not indicated for internal surgical procedures
• Must be applied directly to the bleeding source; placement near the wound will not control bleeding
• If bleeding persists, additional dressings may be applied

Sterility & Storage

• Sterilized by gamma radiation
• Intended for single use only; do not re-sterilize
• Do not use if the sterile pouch is opened or damaged
• Do not use after the expiration date
• Storage Conditions:
  • Keep dry
  • Keep away from heat and direct sunlight
  • Store at temperatures of 77°F (25°C) or less
