How to use Bard Unisex Intermittent Catheter Kits?
For Male:
Squeeze the tabs to maintain the insertion point in place with one hand while using the pull ring to remove the cap. To seal the bag, save the cap.
Push the pre-lubricated catheter halfway into the insertion tip. To avoid having your hands touch the catheter, you can do this through the bag.
Using the included povidone-iodine swabs, clean the urethral entrance and the surrounding area.
Advance the insertion tip into the urethra as far as the base of the insertion tip while holding the penis by the sides.
A control guide on your catheter helps to keep it stable in the urethra.
With your non-dominant hand, take the guide out of the bag. To hold the catheter tube through the bag, use your dominant hand.
Push the catheter through the urethra. Push in a quick, regular motion. Once the catheter reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow, continue inserting it.
Up till the bladder is empty or the bag is full, let the urine flow naturally. Make sure the control guide is at least four inches higher than the bag's lower part.
Precaution:The weight of the urine may cause the catheter to come apart from the collection bag, so it is advised that you hold the bag while collecting the urine.
Remove the catheter from the urethra while pausing three times to allow any leftover urine to drain. To prevent urine from flowing out of the catheter, pinch the end of the catheter before removing it.
Pull the rest of the catheter through the insertion tip to remove it from the collection bag.
Replace the cap over the insertion point to seal the filled collection bag. Verify that the cap attaches firmly.
The bag can be emptied when you're ready by removing the insertion point. Place the empty bag and packing in a trash can. Use soap and water to wash your hands.
