A thin wall needle has a larger inner diameter than a corresponding regular wall needle. Outer diameters of the two needles are identical. The advantage of a thin wall needle is increased flow with flow equal to a needle one gauge size larger. For example, a 20 gauge thin wall has the same flow volume as a 19 gauge regular wall, but is thinner for more patient comfort.
