A. The Hippocampe All-terrain wheelchair is available in Small, Medium,
Large, and Extra Large. Frame selection is based on user height:
- Small: for users up to 4'7"
- Medium: 4'7" to 5'5"
- Large: 5'5" to 6'1"
- Extra Large: over 6'1"
All sizes share the same 15.7" seat width, 14.5" seat depth and 13.3" seat
height from the ground but vary in seat and total length.
Q. Is the Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair safe for water and pools?
A. Yes. It’s made with closed-cell foam and a corrosion-resistant stainless
steel and anodized aluminum frame, making it safe for full water immersion in
pools, lakes, and beaches.
Q. Can the Hippocampe be used on snow?
A. Yes, the Hippocampe can be used on snow when equipped with the optional
front ski kit and rear ski set. Each ski pivots independently, helping the
wheelchair adapt to uneven or sloped snowy paths. Choose the option from the Accessories
section while placing order.
Q. Are balloon wheels necessary for sand use?
A. Standard wheels work on firm sand, but balloon wheels are ideal for fine
or deep sand, making the chair easier to push or pull. Be sure to select
them from the "accessories" menu when placing your order.
Q. What is the weight capacity of the Hippocampe beach and all-terrain wheelchair?
A. It supports up to 286.6 lbs, making it safe for heavy-weight users and adults with mobility challenges.
Q. Is the Hippocampe easy to transport or take on flights?
A. Yes. It weighs just 37.4 lbs. and folds down to 45.6"–58.6", depending on
size. Optional transport bags are available for compact travel and storage. Please select the appropriate transport bag
from the dropdown menu based on your chair size.
Q. Does the Vipamat Hippocampe wheelchair have brakes?
A. Brakes are not included by default, but optional stainless steel parking
brakes are available for added safety during transfers or on slopes. You can add them

Q. Can the Hippocampe be pushed or self-propelled?
A. Yes. It can be self-propelled by the user or pushed/pulled by a caregiver
using the push bar or traction kit.
Q. Is the seat of Vipamat adult chair comfortable for long use and
resistant to moisture?
A. The 3 cm-thick closed-cell foam seat is both comfortable and
water-resistant. It dries quickly, resists mold, and is treated to be
fire-retardant—ideal for extended outdoor use.
Q. Is the Hippocampe beach chair FDA-approved?
A. Yes. The Hippocampe is FDA-cleared and ISO 13485-certified, ensuring it
meets high standards for medical safety and quality.
Q. What are the benefits of swiveling armrests?
A. Swiveling armrests improve comfort and make side transfers easier. They
swing away to allow better access in and out of the chair.
Q. What does the footrest net do on the Vipamat Hippocampe Beach
wheelchair?
A. The footrest net fills the gap between the seat and footrest to prevent
feet from slipping—great for kids or users with limited leg control. It's not included by
