Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC Foam Dressing Using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) foam, Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC is an antibacterial dressing containing a combination of methylene blue and gentian violet to absorb and hold onto exudate and control bacteria present in the wound bed. These pigments have been used safely in medicine for over 50 years and have been proven effective against a variety of microorganisms including MRSA and VRE.

How to Use Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC Antibacterial Foam Dressing

1. Debride the wound of any necrotic tissue. The wound should be cleansed with normal saline and/or an appropriate wound cleansing solution. You may apply an appropriate liquid barrier film wipe on periwound skin.
2. The dressing may be cut with sterile scissors to fit the wound bed. If the wound presents with surrounding erythema or rolled wound edges, the dressing should be larger than the wound to cover periwound skin.
3. Hydrate the dressing with sterile saline or sterile water. Squeeze out excess fluid.
4. Apply the dressing directly to the wound bed. For a tunneling wound, moisten the top with sterile saline or sterile water to aid with ease of insertion. Gently insert the moistened end of the dressing into the wound tunnel or sinus. If necessary, you may use a rigid swab to help guide it into place. After insertion, add a few drops of sterile saline or sterile water to the end of the dressing until moist. Trim the dressing as needed.
5. Apply a secondary dressing based on the level of exudate.

Removal

1. Change the dressing every 3 days. If the dressing has retained its blue color where it has been in contact with the wound, the new dressing can be left in place for up to 3 days. If the dressing turned white or lightened in color, continue daily dressing changes until the blue color is retained.
2. If the dressing is dry, thoroughly remoisten with sterile saline or sterile water. Then gently remove the dressing.

Warnings and Precautions

• Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC Antibacterial Foam Dressing is not intended for use on third-degree burns.
• Keep dry until you are ready to use. Keep away from heat.
