NeoMed GravityPro Gravity Feeding Syringe is intended for oral and enteral administration. These offset syringes can be used to deliver lipids first in a horizontally positioned syringe pump. All syringes include a hands-free tip cap to promote the aseptic technique.
Features
- Promotes Aseptic Technique.
- Allows air flushing with the same syringe.
- Designed with an integrated hanger for user convenience.
- Incorporates a vent zone that allows the plunger to stay in place.
Indications for Use
The device is indicated for use as a dispenser, a measuring device and an oral fluid transfer device. It is used to inject fluids into the body via extension sets and feeding tubes in neonatal and pediatric patients.
Contraindications
The GRAVITYPRO Oral Syringe is intended for one-time use. Each syringe should be used for one dispensing and one patient.
Warnings
- Do not autoclave or re-use syringe as this may increase risk of leakage or biological infection.
- Tip caps are a choking hazard. Keep out of reach of children.
Precautions
- Always attach the syringe to a NEOMED* Feeding Tube or extension set prior to moving the plunger gasket into the vent zone, as fluid will flow immediately when the plunger gasket is positioned in the vent zone.
- Do not invert the syringe when the plunger gasket is within the vent zone.
Feeding Preparation
- Follow physician’s instructions or hospital protocol in opening package and use of contents. Use aseptic technique.
- Identify the vent zone on the syringe (See Fig.1 and Fig. 2.2).
- Fully depress the plunger before filling the syringe. Draw liquid (e.g. formula or mother’s milk) into syringe. For accurate measurement, use the black leading edge of the gasket toward the plunger tip. The accuracy of measurements is ±4% of expelled volume. Do not fill or attempt delivery past the maximum graduation. Do not position plunger gasket in the vent zone during preparation.
- To expel excess air bubbles, ensure the plunger is not positioned in the vent zone. Hold syringe with tip pointing up and tap side of syringe to cause bubbles to rise toward tip. Draw back slightly on plunger taking care to not draw back into the vent zone. Push plunger upward to eject air in barrel and tip. Repeat until bubbles are eliminated
- Place the tip cap on the syringe and label as per hospital protocol (label not included).
Gravity Feeding
- Feeding should be administered via enteral-only connectors. This syringe is not designed for use with Luer connections. To minimize potential for clogging, mix any supplements or additives thoroughly to achieve uniform consistency.
- Invert the syringe and remove tip cap. Draw back on the plunger until the plunger gasket is just above the vent zone
- Attach syringe to a NEOMED Feeding Tube or Extension Set.
- Using the integrated hanger, hang the syringe. For maximum volume delivery, ensure the off-center tip is oriented to the opposite side of the integrated hanger (See Fig. 2.1 and 2.3).
- Holding the syringe barrel, gently pull back on the plunger until the plunger gasket is positioned within the vent zone. Fluid will immediately begin to flow (See Fig. 2.2).
- Plunger gasket may remain in the vent zone for the duration of the feed.
- After feeding, dispose of the syringe per hospital protocol and local or national regulations
Manual and Pump Feeding
- Follow physician’s instructions or hospital protocol for proper manual and pump feeding.
- Always ensure the plunger gasket is not in the vent zone when manual or pump feeding
